A l’Associació Musical l’Embut i a Arco y Flecha ens complau anunciar el tercer Festivalet d’Hivern M.I. 2008 de música improvisada al Convent de Sant Agustí de Barcelona els dies divendres 19, dissabte 20 i diumenge 21 de desembre de 2008. Com una extensió de la sèrie de concerts de petit format M.I.# celebrada durant tot l’any i de les primeres edicions del Festivalet que es van fer a SALADESTAR al 2006 i a Miscelänea Ass. Cultural al 2007, aquest esdeveniment aplega a 10 diversos músics del món barcelonès i internacional de la improvisació lliure per 8 actuacions al cor de Ciutat Vella de Barcelona. Manté el caràcter pluridisciplinar, l’orientació comunitària, la qualitat i el risc fonamentals que defineixen la programació de les edicions anteriors. A banda d’això, cal destacar aquest any la presència de diverses obres compostes per improvisadors no presentades mai a Barcelona. |
Associació Musical l'Embut and Arco y Flecha are pleased to announce the third annual Festivalet d’Hivern M.I.# of improvised music at the Convent de Sant Agustí in Barcelona on Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December 2008. As an extension of the small-format concert series M.I.# organized throughout the year,and of the first editions held at SALADESTAR in 2006 and Miscelänea Cultural Ass. In 2007, the event gathers 10 diverse musicians from the worlds of improvised music in Barcelona and abroad for 8 acts in the heart of downtown Barcelona. It maintains the interdiscipinary character, the community orientation, the quality and the fundamental risk that define the programming of its antecedents. “Un dels més importants exploradors de la música creativa a l’estat espanyol. L’Agustí combina un ampli coneixement de la música clàssica per a piano del segle XX amb la improvisació jazzística, amb un únic i poderós estil.” (The Village Voice, Nova York, EUA) Agustí Fernández va néixer a Palma de Mallorca, on va estudiar piano. Posteriorment va continuar els seus estudis a Barcelona, França i Alemanya. Ha tocat als festivals més importants d’Espanya i Europa. També ha composat música per dansa, teatre, cinema i televisió. Altres projectes on ha treballat Fernández són com a director i cofundador de l’ Orquestra del Caos i de la Big Ensemble del Taller de Músics. Ha estat membre fundador del col·lectiu IBA (Improvisadors de Barcelona), i el seu director des de 1998 fins al 2001. L’any 2003 Fernández va ser el primer espanyol que va enregistrar en el prestigiós segell alemany ECM, amb la seva participació al CD "Memory/Vision" de l’Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, de la que és membre des de 2002. Des d’aquest mateix any també forma part de la Barry Guy New Orchestra. Al 2005 va fundar el trio Fernández/Guy/López, que es va estrenar al Festival Grec de Barcelona. Aquell any va ser especialment prolífic en termes d’enregistraments, ja que va gravar 6 CDs. Fernández és professor d’improvisació a l’ Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) des de l’ any 2001. One of the most important explorers of creative music in Spain. Agustí combines wide-ranging knowledge of classical twentieth-century piano with jazz improvisation, in a unique and powerful style. (The Village Voice, New York, USA) Agustí Fernández was born in Palma de Mallorca, where he studied piano. Later, he continued his studies in Barcelona, France, and Germany. He has performed in the most important Spanish and European festivals. He has also composed music for dance, theater, cinema, and television. Fernández’s other work includes that of director and co-founder of the Orquestra del Caos and of the Big Ensemble del Taller de Músics. He has been a founder member of the IBA Collective (Improvisers of Barcelona), and he was director of IBA from 1998 tol 2001. In 2003 Fernández became the first Spanish musician to record for the prestigious German record label ECM, with his participation on the CD "Memory/Vision" by the Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, of which he remained a member from 2002. Also since that year, he has been a member of the Barry Guy New Orchestra. Christopher Williams is a Barcelona-based composer, bassist, and organizer originally from San Diego (California), where he studied at the University of California with Chaya Czernowin, Bertram Turetzky, Charles Curtis, and others. Mary Oliver (violí, viola, hardanger fiddle) neix a La Jolla, Califòrnia, i estudia a la San Francisco State University (Bachelor of Music), Mills College (Master of Fine Arts) i a la Universitat de Califòrnia, San Diego, on reb el doctorat l’any 1993 per la seva investigació en la teoria i la pràctica de la música improvisada. El seu treball com a solista engloba tant la música improvisada com la composta; ha estrenat obres de Richard Barrett, John Cage, Chaya Czernowin, Brian Ferneyhough, Joëlle Léandre Liza Lim, George E. Lewis, Richard Teitelbaum i Iannis Xenakis. Oliver també ha col·laborat amb Han Bennink, Mark Dresser, Cor Fuhler, Jean-Charles François, Tristan Honsinger, Joëlle Léandre, George E. Lewis, Nicole Mitchell, Andy Moor, Misha Mengelberg Evan Parker i Anthony Pateras. Mary Oliver (violin, viola, hardanger fiddle) was born in La Jolla, California, and studied at San Francisco State University (Bachelor of Music), Mills College (Master of Fine Arts) and the University of California, San Diego where she received her Ph.D in 1993 for her research in the theory and practice of improvised music. Her work as a soloist encompasses both composed and improvised contemporary music; she has premiered works by among others,Richard Barrett, John Cage, Chaya Czernowin, Brian Ferneyhough, Joëlle Léandre Liza Lim, George E. Lewis , Richard Teitelbaum and Iannis Xenakis . Oliver has worked alongside improvising musicians such as Han Bennink, Mark Dresser, Cor Fuhler, Jean-Charles François, Tristan Honsinger, Joëlle Léandre, George E. Lewis, Nicole Mitchell, Andy Moor, Misha Mengelberg Evan Parker, and Anthony Pateras. For the past twelve years she has been based in Amsterdam where she has worked locally and internationally with various ensembles such as Instant Composer’s Pool (ICP) Orchestra, Magpie Music and Dance Company, AACM Black Earth Ensemble, Scapino Ballet , Elision Ensemble, MAE, Het National Ballet and Xenakis Ensemble. |

Rozemarie Heggen (neix l’any 1964) estudia contrabaix al Conservatori Sweelinck i al Conservatori Reial de La Haia. Des que va acabar els seus estudis l’any 1990, ha col·laborat amb totes les principals orquestres i ensembles de música contemporània d’ Holanda, com l’Orquestra Reial del Concertgebouw, la Radio Chamber Orchestra o Asko/Schonberg Ensemble. Actualment es dedica a la improvisació i a la interpretació de música contemporània. Forma part dels grups Maarten Altena Ensemble i The Electric Aardvark, amb Alison Isadora, Cor Fuhler, Anne La Berge i Steve Heather. Com a improvisadora treballa amb, entre d’altres, Michael Moore, John Butcher, Ken Vandermark, Paul Dunmall, Xavier Charles, Han Bennink, Francoise Rivalland, Hamid Drake, Tony Buck, Tewolde Brhane Girmay. Va ser contrabaixista del Nieuw Ensemble des de 1997 fins el 2003, presentant concerts a China, Korea, EUA i Europa. Col·labora amb els coreògrafs Gonnie Heggen (Amsterdam), Hisako Horikawa (Japón) i Sylvain Prunenec (París). Actua amb la Ex Orkest i va ser baixista de la banda de punk/rock/impro The Ex entre 2002 i 2005. Rozemarie Heggen (b.1964) In 1990 she received her teaching and performing diploma’s at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Rozemarie has been a member of experimental groups like Maarten Altena Ensemble and The Electric Aardvark, with Alison Isadora, Cor Fuhler, Anne La Berge and Steve Heather. As an improviser she has performed with a.o. Michael Moore, John Butcher, Ken Vandermark, Paul Dunmall, Xavier Charles, Han Bennink, Francoise Rivalland, Hamid Drake, Tony Buck, Tewolde Brhane Girmay. She was a member of the Nieuw Ensemble from 1997 till 2003, they’ve toured through China, Korea, the USA and within Europe. A big part of their explorations was in new chinese music. Over the years she has collaborated with several choreographers like Gonnie Heggen (Amsterdam), Hisako Horikawa (Japan) and Sylvain Prunenec (Paris). She has performed with the Ex Orkest and was a member of the punk/rock/impro band The Ex from 2002 till 2005, with tours through the USA, Ethiopia and Europe. Since 2007 she plays in a duo with Mary Oliver. She plays in a trio with Francoise Rivalland (percussion) and Hans Tutschku (piano/electronics), in ‘High Birds’ with Paul Dunmall, Alan Purves and Hilary Jeffery, in ‘Doubles’ with Joost Buis, Maartje ten Hoorn and Will Guthrie, in the David Kweksilber Bigband and Magpie Music Dance Company. |

Improvisador i percussionista norueg, Ingar Zach (nascut l’any 1971 a Oslo) va començar els seus estudis de percussió quan tenia 7 anys. Durant els anys 1993-1997 va estudiar Musicologia a la Universitat d’Oslo i després Jazz i Composició al Conservatori de Trondheim. Mentre estudiava a Estocolm l’any 1997 va conèixer a Raymond Strid i David Stackenäs, i l’any 1998 a Ivar Grydeland. L’any 2000 va fundar el segell SOFA amb Grydeland. Actualment treballa amb els grups HUNTSVILLE (N) (amb Ivar Grydeland i Tonny Kluften), NO SPAGHETTI EDITION (N), FLORE DE CATACLYSMO (amb Giuseppe Ielasi, Michel Doneda), MUTA (amb Rhodri Davies (UK), Alessandra Rombolá), JON BALKE i MAGNETIC NORTH ORCHESTRA, LOOPER (amb Nikos Veliotis i Martin Küchen) i LABORATORY FIELD (amb David Stackenäs). Norwegian improviser, percussionist, Ingar Zach (b. June 29th 1971 in Oslo, Norway) begins his percussion training already at age 7 in the local schoolband in Oslo. From 1993-94 he studies Musicology at the University in Oslo, Norway, and then moves to Trondheim in 1994 to start a three year study in jazz and composition at the Music Conservatory. Early 1997 he participates in an exchange program at the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm, Sweden. During his brief residency in Stockholm in 1997 he meets the drummer Raymond Strid and guitar player David Stackenäs. The meeting with these two musicians leeds to a great interest for improvisation. After finishing his three year studies in Trondheim he moves back to Oslo and works as a freelance musician in the field of jazz and improvisation. In 1998 he meets the guitar player; Ivar Grydeland with whom he develops a close musical relationship. In 2000 he co-founds the record label; SOFA together with Grydeland. Ingar Zach is currently working in fixed groups like; HUNTSVILLE (N) (w/Ivar Grydeland and Tonny Kluften), NO SPAGHETTI EDITION (N), FLORE DE CATACLYSMO (w/Giuseppe Ielasi (ITA)- guitar/electronics, Michel Doneda (FRA) –saxophones), MUTA (w/ Rhodri Davies(UK)- harp, Alessandra Rombolá (ITA)- flutes), JON BALKE and MAGNETIC NORTH ORCHESTRA, LOOPER (w/ Nikos Veliotis(GRE) -cello and Martin Küchen(SWE)- saxophones) and LABORATORY FIELD (w/David Stackenäs).
